Routine (Lunar Software)

Never abandon hope! Routine crossed the finish line and was released at the end of 2025 and i'm happy to say it was definitely worth the wait. I don't think i've looked forward to a game as much as this since BioShock Infinite! From the very first trailer and screenshots released i knew this was exactly my kind of game. Absolutely wonderful retro-spacey aesthetics and atmosphere. Trapped in an abandoned (?) moon base. A cute little robot friend. It has everything i could want and more. The gameplay felt refined, controls were smooth, and the puzzles were just the right amount of a challenge. The story though, had me thinking about the game long after i was done playing it. It was surprisingly emotional at some points. After a well deserved vacation for the devs, i pray a sequel will be in the works at some point, as i want/need to know more!

After playing it, i knew had to do a screenshot run as those retro vibes were way too good to pass up. I definitely recommend playing the first time through with all the crt/retro visual effects enabled, as they really do give the game an authentic old school feel. I removed them for the screenshots though, to get some cleaner pics of the creepy moon base that you get to explore, and of the characters you interact with. Because the player you control has no head, i had to get creative with the camera angles when it came to body shots (just like i did with Outlast 2). I focused a lot on very symmetrical, centered shots, especially for hallways/rooms (with those wonderful leading lines), as the game definitely gave me a Kubrick movie kind of feeling.

As usual, i pushed graphics as far as they could go with LOD, shadows, AO, reflections and anti-aliasing (by the time i was done i was playing the game at 11k at around 5 fps lol). I also have to give a big shout out to Shortnamesalex (you can find him on youtube), as he helped me access some of the unreleased/work-in-progress/movie map files. Thanks man! And of course, a huge thanks to the team over at Lunar Software for pushing through and sharing this masterpiece with all of us!
