Finally, after all these years, a dream comes true. Metroid Prime, one of the finest games to ever be released, gets the full remaster treatment. And it was worth the wait. Everything that made Prime so special is still here and has aged flawlessly. Incredible level design. World class atmosphere. Rich and thoughtful game lore. Some of the best music in the series. I could go on and on. And the two main things that weren't quite up to today's standards, the controls and graphics, have now been brought up to the high level of quality of everything else, thanks to the hard work of Retro Studios and their partners. While i was expecting a decent visual upgrade if/when a remaster was ever to be released, i was blown away by what they've actually managed to pull off here. This thing looks incredible. It's always been a dream of mine to screenshot Metroid Prime, and i'm incredibly happy to finally have the chance to do it.
I rendered the game anywhere from 8k to around 20k, and used Reshade for certain shots to add anti-aliasing, bloom, etc, and to add custom colored fog/haze in some scenes, where i felt it would add to the atmosphere. Then came the mods, which were integral to the visuals and screenshotting ability. I used quite a few public and custom mods made by the immensely talented (and helpful!) theboy181 and Heebo, for things like resolution, fov, lod, draw distance, gun sway, hud removal, freecam, and more. Big shout-out to both of those guys.
The confined corridors, very tight camera/frustum culling, and lack of ability to freeze time or adjust the fov on the fly, made this a challenging game to screenshot, but i tried my best to pull from it what i could. Even if i didn't always succeed, i definitely had a blast just being immersed in the world of Tallon IV once again. Huge thanks to Nintendo, the original and new teams at Retro (and all the other studios that contributed) for this amazing game.
